Spicy Chilli Popcorn

What is movie night without popcorns?

This popcorn has sugar, spice (in our Alg Rainbow Seaweed Chilli Flakes), and everything nice. You can make a big batch of this recipe and store it in an airtight container. Bring it out to snack on during movie nights, date nights or just as a mid-day snack. Remember to wait for the popcorns to cool down completely before storing it.

As opposed to caramel popcorns that uses a lot of sugar and requires a long time to make, this popcorn is low in sugar and easy to make!

  • Prep: 5 mins
  • Cook: 20 mins
  • Yields: 4 servings

Ingredients

3 tbsp canola oil

½ cup popcorn kernel

1 tsp Alg Rainbow Seaweed Chilli (reduce or increase according to the spiciness you like)

1 tsp Alg Rainbow Seaweed Salt

1 tbsp brown sugar

80g butter

1 tbsp honey or rice malt syrup

Directions

1To make the coating, heat the butter, brown sugar and honey in a small saucepan over low heat.

2Once all the brown sugar has melted, add in the Alg Rainbow Seaweed Chilli and Alg Rainbow Seaweed Salt then remove from heat.

3Prepare a large stockpot with lid for the popcorns. Heat oil in the stock pot until just before it smokes.

4Add popcorn kernel into the pot. Stir the kernels and close the lid.

5Shake the pot occasionally, for approximately 1 minute or until all the popping sound have stopped.

6Then, immediately pour the coating over & stir until the popcorns are evenly coated.

7Pour the popcorn out of the pot & onto a large baking tray.

8Spread it out to let it cool completely.

9Once it is completely cooled, you can dig right into it or store in an airtight container.
